Namamukweny valley is part of Kidepo Valley National Park which is situated in the northwestern parts of Uganda. Kidepo is the most far away national park from Kampala, the capital of the country, taking approximately 8-9 hours by road.

The name ‘Namamukweny’ is derived from a Karamojong word which means a place without any bird at all. Although this the meaning, you can be confused when you visit the valley because it keeps a wide variety of bird species.

Some of the bird species you can encounter in the Namamukweny valley are the Abyssinian roller bird, White crested turaco, and Eastern paradise whydah among others. These are commonly found here than in any other parts of Kidepo Valley National Park.
