The best time for safari game viewing in Kidepo Valley National Park, is throughout the year. The 1442 square kilometers park, is located in the extreme north eastern corner of Uganda. It is the remotest of Uganda’s national parks, located over 600 km from Kampala. To reach Kidepo by road takes no less than 12 hours of drive which why it is one of the least visited parks in the country.
The park offers one of the most memorable wildlife safari experiences. Kidepo valley was gazetted as a national park in 1952, and has an impressive population of wildlife. It consists of the Kidepo valley and the Narus River valley floors.
This park is located in an area with semi-arid climate, so every time of the year is a good time to visit and view wildlife. Regardless of what time of the year you are making your Uganda safari trip, a trip to Kidepo is always good and worthwhile.
However, the best time for wildlife viewing is the middle and end of the Dry season (November to February) when animals concentrate around reliable water sources and grasses are some; some areas are clear due to controlled bush burning, which makes it easier to spot some wildlife. During the Wet season (April to August) animals disperse from the valleys and move to higher ground, where they are more difficult to locate, the grasses would have grown more longer that makes spotting of some animals more of difficulty.
